Project Overview
We are seeking an inspired successful grants development professional who is ready to use their innovative skills to advance the funding of a more sustainable and equitable food system. You will be working with our nascent grants operational circle in close collaboration with our core team.
Project – Design, identify, guide writing – Unrestricted General Operating Support and Capacity Building
In this 9 – 12 week project:

- draft and support the editing of a General Operating Support grant application,
- make initial contact with foundations and
- help design, facilitate and implement the process of creating strong relationships with funder candidates with PCARE leadership.
Deliverables include:

- Initial letters of contact,
- candidate foundations,
- one or more grant proposals and
- a supporting deck.
We have graphics design people and others to support the process.
You will advise, oversee and execute on fundraising campaigns that focus on unrestricted funding. You will also play a significant role in helping form and manage the Grants Development Circle within our sociocratic governance structure. Upon receipt of grant, program or mission related investment, we are open to providing a performance bonus.
Program Background
Planetary CARE has legally blended a non-profit and multi-stakeholder cooperative devoted to elevating successful, evidence-based approaches for shifting regional food supply chains in farming communities to resilient food ecosystems using soil health and biodiversity practices.
Our current funding initiative will develop an ecosystem of support around the creation of multiple 50-300 acre agroforestry & silvopasture demonstration farms in The Palouse (WA/ID/OR). The end vision is that these catalytic efforts will grow into a full regional food supply ecosystem with transparent financial modeling, enabling it to be replicated and customized region by region across the country.
What You’ll Do
- Become familiar with our sociocratic governance model. Within this regenerative governance model, the opportunity of collaboration across the team will guide your focus to find and secure innovative funding.

- Work closely with the founder and CEO in co-developing a process to secure unrestricted, operational support and capacity building grants.
- Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate for applicable grants
- Advise and direct grant procurement efforts resulting in funding of proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and program directed funding for Planetary CARE initiatives
Skills and Experience Needed

- 5+ years experience in successful grants development and procurement
- Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
- Strong editing skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of fundraising information sources
- Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors
- Knowledge of innovative fundraising techniques and strategies
- Familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research
